Some days they wait to long to open double lift next to the triple so lift line gets long. Hill is always well groomed considering the weather conditions make it tough.

Very accomodating and friendly a wonderful experience for my family and friends.

I agree with another reviewer that Sundown does the best with what they have. I went with my 13 yo son (we are both novices) on Sunday. $59 per person lift ticket and rental all days on Sundays. Can't beat that! Under the freshly groomed and mademade snow from the previous night was a week's worth of 45+ degree temps handywork. Lots and lots of ice. But all things considered, is a very nice hill that will keep most people busy and interested all day long! Give it a try!

When I took my family to Sundown Mountain in Feb. 2017 for our first ski trip, I didn't know what to expect. We had chosen it because it was one of the closest resorts to our home in Arkansas. We were so please with their staff, they treated us like family. We truly found Southern hospitality north of the Mason-Dixon line. The teachers were very heplful to us new comers. We were so impressed that we went back in Jan 2018 and took over 30 friends. We had a blast and again the staff did an outstanding job with our group

Go there every year for Boy scouts, if the weather is great (cold) than the place is great skiing. Warm Cabins great for groups and lovely restaurant and rental store. very unique that you start atop than the bottom of the hill. Would recommend it if you are looking for a nice inexpensive ski resort that isn't overly crowded.

Sundown does the best with well what they have. This is not Colorado, don't expect high speed lifts, and 2500 vert of fresh powder, but also don't expect to pay $150 dollar per lift ticket and a arm and a leg at lunch. Lift prices are like $25-45.The lifts are old and slow, but at least the place is never crowded. Most day trippers from Chicago stick to Chestnut. Its a small place but it does have a good variety of terrain, something for beginners up to experts. They have the typical mid west terrain parks, and they do try to setup 1 short mogul run. The snow is almost always well groomed. The cafeteria in the main lodge is small, not too much selection, with the typical burger and fries. On the weekends they do pizza as well. They do have some wraps and salads, although the super health conscious would do better bringing there own food. They are pretty cool with people bringing there own coolers. They do have do have a bar in the main lodge, with a number of craft brews on tap, and live acts play on the weekends. Some of the locals will stop in just for the bar.

Overall, very good for midwest ski area. Plenty of helpful staff. good for beginners. Ive had more experienced riders give me good tips, nearly every time I go there.

snow was good people are friendly and the terrain park is good
usually go to chestnut, but decided to shake it up and hit sundown instead and won't be back for a while...Overall the snow was awful ,but this might have to do with the ice storm days earlier. Still, there were a TON of beginners out of control where they shouldn't be. Somehow this place seems to make beginners on rentals think they can hit the black diamonds. Another side effect of the plentiful beginners was frequent stoppage of an already very long lift ride. The intermittent smell of manure blowing in the wind didn't make it any better either.

Best you'll get in Iowa. Short lift lines which means you'll get a lot of skiing in. Have a wide variety of runs from Bunny hills to black diamonds with moguls to terrain parks with a wide variety of features from easy to hard. They do a good job grooming when it gets sloppy out and keep the snow well maintained. Nice lodges with decent priced food. Will likely get a season pass next year. Another "pro" is if you are a season pass holder to Sundown you can get free skiing/boarding at Silver Mountain in Kellogg, Idaho.
