Jackson County and Northern California are blessed with an amazing local ski area. This is a place that beginners learn to love skiing, families are able to afford to bring their families as skiing becomes more and more a sport for the monied and elite. It is a place that intermediates can grow into experts by advancing on to more and more challenging terrain and a place that experts can still get a feeling in the pit of their stomachs as they look at a challenging new line into “The Bowl” or exploring a powder filled glade on those cold powder days. Truly, something for everyone.

Skiing in the USA has become so expensive, and it's almost cheaper to get on a plane and fly to Europe than to ski at Bachelor. But for a great little home town ski experience at a decent price (look for the deals), Mt Ashland can't be beat. It's one of the few ski areas that is locally owned! I learned to ski here as a kid in the 1980s. It's small enough that my kids can take off on their own and i don't worry about them. And don't listen to the complainers who say Ashland is too steep or too icy.

This ski resort offers the best deal! After a short drive from town, we enjoy the variety of slopes and short wait times to ride. The scene here is fun for everyone at all levels. Mount Ashland staff work hard so that everyone has an awesome time. Thank you!

After ski bumming in Jackson Hole for 2 winters in my youth I was incredibly spoiled, but I love Mt A. It's is a great little mountain. I switched to tele gear so it's OK not to have long runs for me, the crowds on weekdays are really small, powder doesn't get skied out immediately if you know where to go, and the backside of the mountain opens up tons of ungroomed terrain. There aren't too many other small ski areas that require avalanche control, to give some idea of the steepness facter in the bowl. It's what I call a skier's mountain, lots of ungroomed terrain, no fancy apres ski, not a great mountain for beginners, but plenty of intermediate advanced terrain.

Off the groomers is where Mt. Ashland shines. Spacing in the trees is bigger than it looks from the lifts. Plus there is the back side which is wide open and glorious when conditions are right. Lifts are slow and runs are short, but you can get quite a workout even if you just cruise. The lodge is a throwback to an earlier era when the whole ski experience was less posh and more local. It feels hometown and has great views of the mountain. Intermediate runs are on the tougher side, but the run called Dream is a favorite cruiser. Day ticket prices are way cheaper than the big resorts, and if you come on a weekday there are no lines and the whole mountain is yours. Views of Mt. Shasta from the Upper Balcony are spectacular. It's just a great hill, even though it looks small from the map.

Has some fun short runs. But they can't update there website. I've driven up there several times were online they said they were going to open and they dont.some of the best snow we've had in years and they can't manage to keep it going, I live in Ashland and find myself driveing to bachelor more then Ashland.
