We have just returned from our first ski trip to Filzmoos, and will definitely go back. The slopes is superb for families, intermediate skiers and begginers. With no Black runs it means that the whole mountain is a joy to explore. The pistes are wide yet varied and were kept in great condition. We stayed at the Alpenkrone Hotel and can't fault its staff and facilities. What better way to relax than enjoy the free pool and steam room. We were unable to sample much nightlife as there is no bus from the Hotel into town, past 5.15pm, although my days of staying out late then skiing the day after are well and truly gone. Nothing is perfect so please note that Austria is a tad expensive with a half of lager at 3euros. Also the lack of public transport after 5 pm from town to the hotel puts a halt to any "apres ski". The taxi cost just shy of 10 euros each way. One of the high points are the mountain top cafes. They are traditional wood, and the staff are excellent. For those who enjoy an elevenses of "gluwien" or hot choc, and lunch (dinner to northerners) of cracking goulash, this is the resort to go to. Cant wait to go back and use the skis I bought on the last day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My family and I have been going to Filzmoos for the last eighten years staying at the family run hotel Alpenkrone. It is a a superb holiday resort. it caters for absolute beginners to the intermediates. Although it does have a lot of runs it can be limited for the more adventurous but a quick bus ride to flachau or one of the neighbouring resorts will allow everyones needs to be catered for. The hotel is owned by the hamshire family and they are related to the actress Susan Hampshire. You can book direct (which is cheaper) or go thru Inghams and book a package deal. Either way you will not be disappointed. Go in the first two weeks of january and you will also enjoy balloon week and can have the experience of a life time by taking a balloon flight - not to be missed. The more adventurous can arrange a car or mini bus and travel the short distance to Aubotauhern a higher resort which gauarntees snow all season with lots more challenging runs but you pay for the privilage as they do not operate within the syndicate of lifts near and in Filzmoos. 18yrs accounts for something so give it a try...

beautiful filzmoos, just arrived back after a short break without the kids. stayed at the unterhof hotel, food, staff, ambience, facilities etc were absolutely fantastic. skiing was perfect for us as we are not hoping to win any races and there were plenty of nice reds and blues. nightlife as loud as you want it to be depending on where you go. really loved the place and are already planning to go back with kids as the facilities were superb for them.

I've been to Filzmoos now for the past 7 years and each time thoroughly enjoyed it. I've skied in France, Italy and Andorra but prefer the smaller, picturesque villages you get in Austria.
We picked it initially as it accepted very young children in its ski classes, and my daughter has enjoyed every minute of her skiing from 3.5 years onwards.
Everything in resort is close by - essential with children. Good restaurants, good night life and good accommodation. You can easily ski in another village if you want to be more adventurous. But runs in general don't tend to get crowded - again good news for families and for lazier skiiers with dodgy knees like me.
Brilliant night life, good range of slopes!
